How To Care For Your Silver Jewellery

Updated: May 25, 2022

Here are a few of my top tips to keep your sterling silver and fine silver jewellery looking its absolute best!

Tip #1

First of all, I recommend that you remove your jewellery when you shower or even when washing the dishes (obviously I mean rings rather than necklaces when washing the dishes...) to avoid any unnecessary wear and tear and keep your jewellery looking like new.

Tip #2

It is best to keep your jewellery in a jewellery box or in the storage pouch provided when it's not being worn to prevent the piece from tarnishing too quickly. Tarnish is simply a product of a chemical reaction that occurs when silver is exposed to elements in the air and it makes your jewellery look dull. Don't worry though, it is a natural process and a simple polish will remove the tarnish and make your jewellery look as good as new!

Tip #3

To buff up your jewellery and make it sparkle again, simply give it a little polish with a silver polishing cloth. Silver polishing cloths (basically magic) are 100%-cotton cloths that are impregnated with "anti-tarnish agents" which are specifically designed to restore and preserve your silver jewellery so it always looks like new! I put a free silver polishing cloth in with all orders over £50.

If you have purchased an item from me which is 'antique' or 'oxidised' be careful with using polishing cloths as you can remove the colouring if you polish it too much.

Tip #4

I really wouldn't recommend using 'polishing dips' as the chemicals can be quite harsh - a simple rub with a polishing cloth should do the trick! Polishing dips would also remove all colouring on 'antique' or 'oxidised' items. If you do happen to use a polishing dip, do not put silver plated jewellery in the solution as it will more than likely strip the silver plating off completely, ruining your jewellery and making you wish you followed tip #4.

I hope you find these few tips useful - feel free to comment about your own tips or tricks you use to keep your silver jewellery looking fabulous.
